Shopping for Screen Projectors

When shopping for screen projectors, there are a number of choices to be made. Screen projectors can range from a few hundred dollars to the thousands, depending on the size and features required. Some of the major brands in the screen projectors market include Sima, Da-Lite, Buhl, and Draper. Before you can really begin shopping for screen projectors, you need to decide what type of device is going to satisfy your needs.

For those with high mobility needs, ultralight or personal screen projectors may be the best choice available. If you travel a great deal, having a lighter device can really pay off. Some of the latest models of ultra lights weigh as little as three pounds. As technology has progressed, the features of the lightest screen projectors have come to compete with even the large models. The brightness and color quality of the light models has come a long way, and will probably be suitable for conferences. All of this, of course, comes at a price. The miniaturized screen projectors may have great quality, but some of these can be very expensive.

For a more permanent setup, you may want to move up to the conference room sized screen projectors. Conference room screen projectors are not going to be as mobile, but they aren't so heavy that they can't be moved around an office. Conference room screen projectors typically perform very well, with plenty of brightness for an office setting. Although you can find many of these same features in mobile screen projector, it's not going to cost you an arm and a leg.

A fixed installation projector is a serious investment, appropriate for larger events that take place in halls or auditoriums. Fixed screen projectors, of course, cannot be freely moved. Fixed screen projectors, however, provide the best image quality for big screens.

In addition to the size of the screen projector itself, there is also the choice of liquid crystal (LCD) or digital light processing (DLP) displays. An LCD projector will probably provide high saturation and sharper images, whereas a DLP projector will give you better contrast and deeper shades of black. As far as price goes, there isn't much of a difference between LCD and DLP projectors.

Once you have settled on the type of projector you want, it is also important to consider the brightness of the projector. Brightness is measured in lumens, and you should be able to see how many lumens a projector is rated at. A projector that isn't bright enough can ruin a presentation. When on the road, look for projectors that can put out at least 1000 to 2000 lumens. Larger conference rooms are going to need a brighter bulb, along the lines of 2000 to 4000 lumens. You will also want to consider the light level in these rooms. Remember also that bulbs burn out; this is often an unexpected, and unfortunately, major expense.

Another major consideration is the resolution at which a projector operates. Although projectors can very well adapt to other resolutions, they have a native resolution in which they work best. The two most common modes are 800x600 (SVGA) and 1024x768 (XGA). The resolution affects how many pixels are included in a projection. If you are going to be displaying detailed information such as images frequently, you may want to invest in higher resolutions.

When buying a projector, you may also want to check into the warranty. Check that the warranty is suitably long. If you travel and rely greatly on your projector, it might be a good idea to have a 24 hour replacement warranty in place. In case your projector breaks before an important conference, the manufacturer can send you a new one given a day's notice. Warranty is especially important for the traveler, as projectors tend to take more wear and tear on the road.

Shopping for screen projectors doesn't have to be a frightening experience. Hopefully this guide has given you some insight into the world of screen projectors, and what direction to look in to satisfy your projecting needs.
